There are many ways covered spaces can benefit Cordova, here are a few reasons why you and your organization should write a letter of support for this project. Cordova Covered Outdoor Spaces Project creates a unique opportunity for individuals, businesses, groups and organizations to come together to create a lasting physical and educational improvement with long term positive impacts for the Cordova community and Prince William Sound through education and outdoor activity. Covered spaces along the route from Hartney Bay to Cordova downtown and along Orca Road with a spur out Power Creek Road will create multiple new recreation spots that could be used in many ways. Connecting multiple covered spaces with different route maps that include information about history, botany, wildlife, culture and art will offer a wide variety of educational opportunities for many diverse groups. The Covered Spaces project will create a new destination experience for visitors, (especially independent travelers, the type of tourist that fits Cordova best) and offer opportunities for locals to spread out and meet outdoors especially now during the time of Covid.

A meeting with Native Village of Eyak (NVE) representatives last week was quite positive. Possible sites, new ideas and options for covered spaces were discussed as well as different funding possibilities. The ability to create spaces to educate, meet and for new recreation opportunities was very well received. We hope to continue working with NVE to move the project forward.
Meetings with people and groups are underway with the goals of obtaining letters of support for the Cordova Covered Outdoor Spaces Project.
