In April of 2022 Cordova Gear partnered with The Net Loft to bring Alaskan watercolor artist Max Romey to Cordova, Alaska for art workshops and the premier of his film "Trailbound Alaska." Proceeds from the premier were used as the beginning funds for the Cordova Covered Spaces Project which is an ongoing initiative to build covered spaces along a trail route through the town of Cordova. The film followed along as Max and friends attempted to retrace the historic Iditarod Trail route from Seward to Girdwood, Alaska. Mostly overgrown from decades of non-use, the "trail" was often difficult to find and follow, yet navigable sections provided a rugged and wild glimpse into a rarely seen area of the state. Carrying a sketchbook with him as always, Max was able to capture beautiful moments from the trail to share in his uniquely bold painting style. The premier played to a packed theater who enjoyed watching the adventure play out on the big screen.
We are equally excited to follow the new partnership Max has formed with favorite sustainable lifestyle company Keen Footwear. Together they are combining innovation with creativity and sustainability for products that help us move through our landscape while protecting it for generations to come. As a creative ambassador with a deep love of running and painting in the outdoors, we know Max will bring Alaska-approved energy and designs to the already beloved footwear company. Check out what these two dynamic forces are creating together, and find more information about the Covered Spaces Project in our neighborhood.
