During the last week we began to see hummingbirds again! First sighting was so quick it was hard to identify it. There have been one or two Anna's that have actually wintered in Cordova, Alaska. The Rufous are the ones we spotted, one started coming by then two then three. Listening to them chatter in the trees is a joy. A whir goes by and then is gone, these little birds are amazing and delightful.

A morning walk on Power Creek Road by Skaters Cabin was beautiful this morning. Just foggy enough to mute the colors and sounds a bit. One of the first mornings without a hat or jacket! The repairs and improvements at Skaters Cabin are exciting to see.
A walk on the Alaganik Boardwalk and road on a Sunday afternoon is a wonderful, relaxing adventure, each visit is different from the last visit. Right now things are warming up on the Copper River Delta. Birds are flying and talking while bugs are beginning to buzz! Many birds are stopping by for a rest on their way further north. If you look very closely you will see a tiny bit of green and some buds ready to burst.
Thanks to the Forest Service this is an easy and wonderful place to visit not matter what your ability or age might be. Oh, and the bathrooms are clean and very well kept! https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/chugach/recarea/?recid=6935 Wide open views and many new birds returning every day, ride or walk Alaganik road for a taste of spring renewal in action! We saw eagles, swans, geese and a moose! It is an easy walk or ride and the snow and muddy patches are almost gone.
Crater Lake Trail still has some snow and ice, but is getting better every day, wear studded footwear like icebugs or use a slip on traction device. Cordova Gear can also put screws in your footwear for a good traction option that is removable.
